Israels swollen cabinet too big for table
The Israel Defence Forces has a cabinet too big for Israeli society - which may be why it faces a public campaign to bring it down.
Maintaining the cabinet's size in a high-pressure political atmosphere is particularly hard because the size of the ministerial positions is not a public function.
They have become a symbol of Israel's success in the Middle East, but in recent weeks have also become a source of controversy over the size of the cabinet.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has suggested the cabinet should be reduced from 7 to 4 members.
But the idea has sparked criticism, particularly when Netanyahu refused to budge for some weeks.
This time there has been some opposition, especially from the far-right National Union party, which has accused Netanyahu of trying to force through the idea.
